Today at a glance:

The 80/20 Principle, also known as the Pareto Principle, is a powerful concept that can transform the way you approach your business strategy.

Imagine receiving automated notifications whenever a high-value client interacts with your business, allowing you to provide timely and personalized attention.

Or having your email marketing platform automatically segment your audience based on their value and tailor the content accordingly.

In this article, we will explore how to apply the 80/20 Principle and provide an automation idea to help you harness its full potential.

A Framework:

I am sure you have heard this before!

“20% of your efforts generate 80% of your results”

The 80/20 Principle is a powerful concept that reminds us to focus on the activities that truly matter and have the most impact on our bottom line.

Getting into the business perspective: You can allocate your business resources more effectively by identifying the top 20% of your clients, strategies, distribution channels, partnerships, and/or social media tactics that generates 80% of your revenue

It is that simple! But, in my experience as a business consultant, I have not seen many businesses doing it effectively.

Do you want to apply the 80/20 Principle to your business?

Let's dive into a framework to implement the 80/20 Principle:

✅ Step 1: Analyze Data and Collect Insights

Start by analyzing data from various sources, such as your CRM, sales reports, website analytics, and customer feedback.

This will provide you with a holistic view of your business and help identify the key drivers of success.

Pro tip: Use tools like Zapier or Make to automate the process of collecting and consolidating data from different platforms.

✅ Step 2: Identify the Vital Few

Once you have the data, examine it closely to identify the top 20% of clients that generate 80% of your revenue.

Look for patterns, common characteristics, and behaviors among these high-value clients.

This insight will guide your decision-making process and enable you to tailor your strategies and resources toward this critical segment.

✅ Step 3: Prioritize Tasks and Strategies

With the knowledge of your most valuable clients, it's time to prioritize your tasks, emails, strategies, distribution channels, partnerships, and social media efforts.

Allocate more time and resources to activities that directly impact this top 20% group.

For example, personalize your communications, offer exclusive perks, and tailor your marketing messages to resonate with their specific needs and preferences.

✅ Step 4: Continuously Monitor and Refine

Guess what? The journey doesn't end with the initial identification and prioritization.

The 80/20 Principle is a dynamic concept that requires continuous monitoring and refinement.

  • Regularly review your data, track the performance of your strategies, and adapt as needed.

  • Keep a pulse on changes in the market, customer preferences, and emerging trends that may impact the composition of your top 20%.

  • By staying agile and responsive, you can maintain your competitive edge and ensure ongoing success.

Implementing the 80/20 Principle in your business is a game-changer!

By focusing on the vital few, you can streamline your efforts, optimize your resources, and achieve remarkable results.

An Automation Idea:

↓ Trigger.

The trigger for this workflow would be scheduled instead of triggered by other platforms as in the previous workflows I have shared.

Maybe monthly or quarterly? You choose!

The point is to analyze data from all the platforms that are part of your funnel to identify the top 20% of clients that yield 80% of the revenue.

↓ Consolidation.

Once the top 20% of high-value clients are identified, the automation consolidates this information into a database.

You guess it! Notion…

↓ Prioritization.

Then, it sends the information to other channels enabling them to filter and prioritize tasks, emails, distribution channels, partnerships, social media campaigns, and other business activities based on the value they bring to your organization.

You can analyze the data yourself and allocate your resources and efforts where they will have the most significant impact!

Imagine receiving automated notifications whenever a high-value client interacts with your business, allowing you to provide timely and personalized attention.

Or having your email marketing platform automatically segment your audience based on their value and tailor the content accordingly.

Let automation be your ally in maximizing business outcomes and achieving success!

Not enough people apply this principle to their time as a whole - when in stage one, make sure to also track your time.

Toggl is a great free way to do that easily.

Knowing what your spend your time on helps you identify what 20% of tasks actually lead to the best results (both in terms of business results like revenue and life results like happiness)
